Manuscripts, 1967-2010 and undated
Series 2 consists of both published and unpublished manuscript materials submitted to Dryad. Most are typewritten drafts, and many include autograph notations made by the author or Merrill Leffler. The majority of items in this series were submitted for the magazine, including the manuscripts for specific issues of Dryad. There are also full and fragmentary manuscripts of books published by Dryad Press. Several chapters of Reed Whittemore's memoir Against the Grain in the series have been identified as a "working copy," the term Merrill Leffler used to denote the first or early drafts of these particular chapters. Several of Whittemore's unpublished poems and stories are also included in this series.
Of note are the manuscripts submitted for A Tumult for John Berryman, an anthology edited by Marguerite Harris, to which a number of poets contributed. The largest numbers of manuscripts are by Henry Allen, Rod Jellema, Herman Taube, and Paul Zimmer.
This series is arranged alphabetically by author and chronologically within folders with undated material at the end of the appropriate folder.
