Correspondence, 1921-1981 and undated

 Series 1

This series contains letters to and from Mary Louis Doherty; the earliest is dated May 29, 1921, and the latest, April 26, 1981. Most of the letters are from the period between 1943 and 1949. Some letters are undated. Some are originals and others are copies, carbons or transcribed. There are also nine letters written by her sister Marguerite (Peggy) Doherty to various correspondents. The series also contains miscellaneous materials interfiled chronologically with the letters. These include copies of letters of recommendation for Mary Louis Doherty, copies of her resumes and job applications, one of her business cards, copies of publications of the two U. S. government agencies for which she worked in 1944-1945, a few newspaper clippings related to Doherty or the correspondence, and a few miscellaneous reports and legal documents. Twenty-three of the letters or newspaper clippings are in Spanish.
