Music, 1908-1933

Contains over 150 individual musical scores, including two operas and six librettos. Many items that appear in the previous section as poems appear set to music in this section. The two sextions thus document the multimedia characteristic of Brian Barnes's work. Of note are collaborations with other Barnes family members such as the songs "The Cod Fishers" and "The Water Sprite," with words by Djuna Chappell Barnes, and the song "Rolled Home," with words by Zadel Barnes Gustafson. Collaborations with others include the following songs: "The Keel Row" and "Merry May the Keel Row (Border Song)," with words by James Hogg/Brian Barnes, and "The Lake of the Dismal Swamp," with words by Thomas Moore.
