General Military Broadcasting, 1941-1953

This subseries includes scripts, transcripts, newspaper articles, scrapbooks, speeches and reports. The three scripts are from The Army Hour and from a proposed radio and television program called the Coca-Cola Armed Forces program. The scripts from The Army Hour were broadcast in 1944 and 1945. Transcripts are from radio programs of The Allied Expeditionary Forces Program of the B.B.C and were a feature of the American Band of the A.E.F. which was directed by Capt. Glenn Miller. They were broadcast in July and August 1944 and guest stars included Dinah Shore and Bing Crosby. Newspaper articles include reprints from Broadcasting and Radio Daily-Television Daily. An article from This is the American Forces Network is housed with the oversized materials in Series V.

Also included in this series is an address by Col. Kirby entitled, "The War Mission of Radio" dating from 1945, and a memo written in 1964 for the Hollywood Museum on Col. Kirby's recollections and references of military and civilian broadcasting in World War II and Korea.
