National Public Radio Programming Division, 1977-1983 and undated

Programming Division materials are arranged in fourteen subject areas: administrative files, audience research, budget proposal materials, conferences, correspondence (1979-1982), diaries, funding and finances, memoranda (1978-1982), program information, program tapes, reports and minutes of the National Public Radio Board Programming Committee (1979-1983), reports on programming policy, station program evaluations (1978-1983), and technical operations. Administrative files include information about the hiring and retirement of Holt, his reports to various divisions, an exchange with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), and memoranda. Audience research materials include reports on public radio audience profiles, an intermittent newsletter, CPB Arbitron data and The NPR Audience: 1981. Miscellaneous budget materials are arranged by fiscal year, 1980-1983; these relate to the preparation of Programming Division budgets. There are two types of correspondence: brief memos written by Holt himself and large correspondence between various parts of the Programming Division. Funding and Finances includes information about the Ford Foundation and underwriting funding. Program information including press kits and transcripts cover Morning Edition, All Things Considered, the WNET Shakespeare Project, and other shows, some including photographs, and eleven cassette tapes are present. Reports on programming policy include national program services proposals, information on NPR Plus! (a specific form of the national program service), notes on vertical services meetings. Charts from presentations can also be found in the oversize box. Technical operations has information on satellites and a cable audio project. This subseries is arranged alphabetically by subject and chronologically within each subject.
