This subseries documents The Wedding Cake in the Middle of the Road, an anthology of short stories co-edited by Susan Stamberg and George Garrett, which developed from a set of chain stories broadcast on Weekend Edition Sunday in 1989. Authors in the collection include Ann Beattie, Richard Bausch, Ron Carlson, Stuart Dybek, Richard Ford, George Garrett, Marita Golden, Judith Guest, Pamela Houston, Brian Klam, David Leavitt, Gregory McDonald, Bharati Mukherjee, Mary Lee Settle, Allen Wier, Joy Williams, and Hannah Wilson. The bulk of sources in this subseries are contracts, both for the original radio broadcast and for the anthology; however, there are also sources relating to the promotion of the book.
Materials are arranged chronologically by document type.
