Office of the President Memos and Correspondence, 1905-1971

Subseries 2 contains memos and correspondence sent between the Library Director's Office and the Office of the President of the University of Maryland. A large portion of the materials, written between 1930 and 1970, pertain to Presidents Byrd, Pearson, and Elkins. Topics include budget problems, the management of library staff and student assistants, hiring librarians, appointing faculty to the Library Committee, library use statistics, publishing the college catalog, and acquiring materials for the library, particularly rare books, and manuscript collections.

The documents are arranged chronologically, beginning with the term of President Silvester and ending with the term of President Elkins.
