This series contains notes and correspondence and published works by Isabel Bayley and others. Isabel Bayley exchanged correspondence with Katherine Anne Porter, friends and family, literary colleagues, publishers, lawyers, faculty and staff of several universities and institutions, and individuals seeking permission to publish or make use of the intellectual property residing in the work of Katherine Anne Porter. Correspondence between Isabel Bayley and Katherine Anne Porter dates from July 16, 1948, to September 3, 1980. There is also a small amount of correspondence between Katherine Anne Porter and other individuals, the earliest dated 1937 and the latest 1976. This series also contains correspondence from 1968 to 1993 exchanged between Isabel Bayley and faculty and staff at the University of Maryland, College Park, relating to Katherine Anne Porter's papers, the Katherine Anne Porter Room, events held in Katherine Anne Porter's honor, and issues related to Isabel Bayley's service as Porter's literary trustee.

Bayley's correspondence files also contain photocopies of Porter's correspondence and notes pertaining to Bayley's research for Letters of Katherine Anne Porter. There are photocopies of Porter's correspondence, not duplicated in Porter's papers, in the files for Yaddo, University of Southern Illinois, Pennsylvania State University, Vanderbilt University, New York Public Library, and University of Texas. "Permissions for Letters of Katherine Anne Porter" contains Bayley's correspondence with institutions and individuals requesting copies of Porter's letters in their possession and/or permission to publish that correspondence.

The series is arranged alphabetically by correspondent, institution, or subject. Photographs and manuscripts originally enclosed in correspondence were separated and incorporated into Series 9 and Series 10, respectively. Published works by Bayley and others enclosed in correspondence was retained with the related correspondence. There is additional correspondence between Paul Porter and Isabel Bayley in Series 5.
