Notecards and Notes in Other Formats, 1947-1993

 Series 4

This series includes Bayley's handwritten and typed notes on 6 x 8 notecards and on sheets and scraps of paper. The majority of this series consists of Bayley's "notes" or "daily notes," chronologically arranged entries on daily events, observations, and ideas for writings as well as her relationship with Porter.

Another portion consists of Bayley's notes on various subjects including art, writing, dreams, and story ideas, drawn from newspaper clippings she collected or lectures and seminars that she attended.

There are also notecards related to Porter including Bayley's research on Porter's marginalia, telephone conversations, "KAP visits," and Bayley's work on Letters of Katherine Anne Porter. Specifically, Bayley maintained an index of Porter's letters that she consulted while conducting research in Porter's papers at the University of Maryland Libraries. There are also notecards related to legal and financial issues of Porter's literary trust.

There are additional notecards scattered throughout Bayley's papers. Bayley filed some of the notes or transcriptions of telephone conversations with related correspondence. Bayley also maintained notecards on writings, related to Porter or on other subjects, with the drafts of those works.

The notecards and notes in other formats are arranged in four groupings, "KAP-Related Notes -- Research Notes," "Daily Notes," "Subject Notes," and "Notes in Other Formats," in that order. There are two subgroupings within "KAP-Related Notes -- Research Notes," "KAP Letters" followed by "Other Topics."
