This series consists of correspondence from patrons of the Grimes ordinary to the proprietors, and correspondence about the Grimes family's use of laborers who were enslaved by other local families, an agreement in which the enslavers received payment, but not the enslaved people doing the labor for the hiring family. The arrangement is chronological within each type of correspondence.
