Additional Katherine Anne Porter-Related Material, 1940-1974 and undated
This series contains materials arranged in three groupings in the following order: "By Porter," "About Porter," and "Katherine Anne Porter Foundation." Within groupings, arrangement is alphabetical. The "By Porter" grouping includes a file containing an envelope, on which she wrote an explanation of her exchange of opinions with George Dixon regarding scientists in 1961, and the contents of the envelope--an annotated carbon copy of Porter's October 13, 1961, letter to Dixon and associated clippings from the Washington Post; newspaper and journal articles by Porter, including a reading list she suggested at the Olivet Writers' and Readers' Conference in July 1940; the first paragraph of Katherine Anne Porter's synopsis of "No Safe Harbor," hand copied by Glenway Wescott; and photocopies of some of her poems. "About Porter" consists of newspaper and journal articles whose subject is Porter, as well as Wescott's notes on Porter's reading of Noon Wine at the Olivet Writers' and Readers' Conference in summer 1940, and copies of programs for University of Maryland events honoring Porter. Wescott made marginal notes on some of the articles. The "Katherine Anne Porter Foundation" file includes copies of the amended articles of its incorporation, by-laws, and minutes.
