Public Statements, 1968-1974

 Sub-Series

This subseries consists of the public pronouncements of Vice President Agnew in a variety of formats. Included are speeches and statements; television, newspaper, and magazine interviews; press conferences; and press releases. Also present are materials used in preparing public statements, such as speech writing and practice question and answer files, invitations, schedules, and press clippings. The bulk of the subseries consists of the speeches Mr. Agnew made to groups across the United States, primarily political, civic, and business organizations; also included are commencement addresses and presentations made at the dedications of various facilities. The materials used in preparing for speeches cover a variety of topics, such as Vietnam and other foreign policy issues, the young people of America, health care, pornography, race relations, drugs, the media, political campaigns, and the environment. Interviews with print and television journalists included in the subseries document the Vice President's contact with both national and local media, as do the transcripts of Agnew's press conferences. Among the significant correspondents represented in the files are Pat Buchanan, various members of the vice president's staff, and numerous members of the national media, such as William F. Buckley, Lou Cannon, Rowland Evans, and James Reston.

Arrangement is by document type, then chronological.
