Visual Materials, 1903-1976 and undated

This series includes photographs, glass slides, slides, and one contact sheet. There are fifty-eight lantern slides taken by a photographer identified only as Mr. Brennan. The slides are dated between 1903 and 1927 and consist of portrait shots; group shots, includes sports teams and military and women's groups; University of Maryland buildings and grounds; gardens; streets; and aerial views of campus. Also included are eleven color photographs of the campus taken by Mr. Bissell in 1965. Black and white photographs in the series include a 1952 photograph of Gerneaux Hall, an undated photograph of the Ella Fitzgerald Center for the Performing Arts at the University of Maryland, Eastern Shore, one photograph of university president Wilson Elkins dated "1976 or earlier," two photographs of Milton Ellsworth Poole in World War I uniform, and two photographs of the sons of Milton Ellsworth Poole, probably from 1946. Five color slides, dated between 1949 and 1963, depict the furnace at Snow Hill and Bayside Farm in Worcester County, Maryland. These materials have been transferred to the photograph collection.
