Publications, 1900-1999 and undated

 Series — Multiple Containers 2

This series contains publications by, about, or collected by Katherine Anne Porter. Materials are arranged in two subgroups: Monographs and Music.

"Monographs" include A Treasury of Unfamiliar Lyrics by Norman Ault; Porter's copy of Ivan Goll's Poets' Messages; Carolyn Kreiter-Foronda's Death Comes Riding, a collection of her poems that includes "Katherine Anne Porter's Secret"; a copy of The Collected Essays and Occasional Writings of Katherine Anne Porter, formerly owned by Paul Porter; and Katherine Anne Porter's The Never Ending Wrong, inscribed by Porter. Glenway Wescott received Ault's monograph from George Platt Lynes; Lynes gave it to Katherine Anne Porter in May 1939; Porter, in turn, gave it to Dobson on April 8, 1979. The monograph contains inscriptions, notes, and other markings by both Wescott and Porter.

The "Music" grouping consists of bound and unbound sheet music, songbooks, and a music notation booklet in Porter's handwriting, which spans the period from 1901 to 1969. The bulk of the music collection consists of French sheet music and songbooks, some of which were collected by Porter when she was working on Katherine Anne Porter's French Song-book. There is also a great deal of early music, of which Porter was fond, including pieces by Johannes Sebastian Bach, William Byrd, and John Bull as well as several pieces of virginal music by English composers of the sixteenth century. Additionally, the collection contains nine music instruction books, one piece of unlabeled sheet music, and fragments of sheet music of American folk songs and union- or labor-related songs.

Within these categories, items are arranged alphabetically by author, composer, or title.
