Historic Figures and Topics, 1861-c. 1980s and undated

This series consists primarily of published newspaper and magazine articles, brochures, and booklets concerning people and topics important to Maryland's history. Marylanders represented include colonial settlers, saints, scholars, artisans, philanthropists, traitors, scientists, authors, newspaper editor, and politicians. Holland collected clippings about such prominent families as the Ellicotts, Peales, Dorseys, Carrolls, Calverts, and Shipleys and famous individuals such as Benjamin Banneker, Clara Barton, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Theodore McKeldin, William Paca, Edgar Allan Poe, St. Elizabeth Seton, Mary Surratt, and Chief Turkey Tayac. Maryland's Sesquicentennial, the U.S Bicentennial, the state's iron industry, and the flood of 1972 are addressed in the historic subject files.

The materials are arranged alphabetically by topic.
