Serials, 1916-1972 and undated
This series includes serials that contain articles and stories written by Hemingway and articles that discuss Hemingway's life, writings, and impact on literary scholarship. Many contain Hemingway's works, often in their first appearance, or articles about Hemingway; others are literary criticism or book reviews, both of his own works and of biographies about Hemingway. There are also articles about Hemingway's houses in Cuba and Key West that were converted into museums after his death. Of particular interest are the American Red Cross magazines that describe Hemingway's injuries while an ambulance driver in Italy during WWI.
Hemingway was influential due to both his writing and his activities and as a result was frequently mentioned in articles about a variety of subjects such as the liquor absinthe, bullfighting, the literary community in Paris, and fly fishing.
The series consists of six groupings arranged in the following order: serials with articles by Hemingway; book reviews; articles about Hemingway; reviews of published biographies of Hemingway; articles that simply mention Hemingway; and articles about films based on Hemingway's stories. Within these categories, materials are arranged alphabetically by title, then chronologically. Periodical types include literary, art, political, news, home, men's magazines, and fashion.
