Galley Proofs, Manuscripts, and Scripts, 1945-1977 and undated
This series consists of manuscripts, uncorrected page proofs, and galleys by authors other than Hemingway. These manuscripts are mainly biographical works about Hemingway. There are also the scripts for stage and movie adaptations of Hemingway's works. Many of Hemingway's novels were made into movies, although not all films retained the title of Hemingway's original work.
The materials in this series are arranged in three subgroups: Galley Proofs, Manuscripts, and Scripts. The first group, Galley Proofs, includes page proofs of works about Hemingway and his writings. The second subgroup, Manuscripts, includes a poem by Archibald MacLeish titled "Voyage for Ernest Hemingway" and an unpublished manuscript by Derek Patmore, "The Young Ernest Hemingway." The third subgroup, Scripts, includes scripts of movies and plays, both based on Hemingway's stories and on Hemingway himself. Of particular note is the script for The Spanish Earth, with pencil editing by Hemingway. Within those categories, they are arranged alphabetically by the author's last name; in the absence of a known author, they are alphabetical by title.
