Committees and Councils, 1942-1963

The committees and councils documented in the three subseries comprising Series 3 were organized to implement various objectives of the IUMSWA. Negotiating committees were formed to negotiate contracts, on behalf of locals, with individual shipbuilding firms. Political action committees, composed of delegates from various C.I.O. unions, were convened to mobilize support for the political objectives of the C.I.O. movement. And port councils were established to foster cooperation between multiple locals located in particular geographic area. Records documenting these various bodies include correspondence, reports, minutes, publications, bylaws, publications, and newspaper clippings.
