Shipbuilding Stabilization Committee, 1939-1947
The Shipbuilding Stabilization Committee was organized in 1940 to investigate wage rates and working conditions in the shipyards. The goal of this investigation was the stabilization of employment in the yards which would in turn facilitate efficient construction of ships needed for national defense.
The Committee's files consist of minutes and proceedings of meetings, correspondence, administrative orders, telegrams, and affidavits. Significant topics discussed include proposals for the stabilization of labor conditions, effects of presidential executive and other administrative orders on the shipbuilding industry, and shipyard production. The files also contain routine correspondence concerning the structure and functioning of the committee itself. Arrangement is alphabetical by document type or subject.
