Audio-Visual Materials, 1876-1977

 Sub-Series

This subseries contains audio tapes, two video tapes, slides, lantern slides, photographs, and one 16mm film. Most of the audio reel-to-reel and video tapes record speeches, lectures, and programs of the annual ACEI Study Conferences. The audio cassette tapes are primarily oral history interviews of "later leaders in childhood education." Slides document activities of the ACEI headquarters, including the construction of the ACEI Center in 1959-60 in Washington, D. C. The lantern slides document kindergarten from the late 19th century to the early 20th century. The 16mm film is of the Moray Training School in Edinburgh, Scotland done by the Department of Kindergarten at Teacher's College. The photographs document kindergarten from its beginning to the 1950's in the United States and Germany.

Materials are arranged first according to medium--1200 foot audio reel tapes, 600 foot audio reel tapes, video tapes, audio cassette tapes, slides, lantern slides, film, and photographs. Audio and video tapes are arranged alphabetically by the surname of the speaker, the person being interviewed or the person who is the subject of an interview. Slides are arranged alphabetically by subject. The lantern slides are grouped by subjects. ACEI arranged the photographs into picture sequences under educational criteria and into subject groupings.
