Maryland State Youth Grange, 1949-1977
The Maryland State Youth Grange was founded in 1950 to promote youth participation in the Grange. Membership is open to young men and women, age fourteen or older. Youth Grange members include both teenagers and young married farm couples. The Youth Grange has three objectives:
- To promote participation of young people in the activities of the Grange. Additionally, special youth activities were undertaken, including Youth Nights and Youth Leadership Conferences at the 4-H camp in Harford County, Maryland.
- To offer support and encouragement to other rural youth organizations such as the Juvenile Grange (young people under the age of fourteen), the 4-H, and the Future Farmers and Homemakers of America.
- To encourage youth participation in civic activities.
This series dates from 1949 to 1977 and includes correspondence from the National Grange and other state youth Granges to the Maryland State Youth Grange; newsletters of the National Grange, Maryland State Youth Grange, and other Youth Granges; minutes of meetings; annual reports; correspondence and minutes of the Youth Leadership Conference; and information concerning Youth Grange contests and civic programs. These materials are arranged based on their importance to the organization.
