Speeches, 1909-1936
This series consists of speeches and related materials from Ritchie's political career. In addition to preliminary and final drafts and printed versions of speeches, the series includes newspaper clippings, correspondence, and reports related to Ritchie's speeches. The bulk of the material dates to Ritchie's final two terms as governor in the years 1926-1934.
Ritchie's speeches, especially many of the campaign speeches, cover a wide range of issues including the Democratic and Republican parties, liberty and democracy, education, agriculture, industry, banking, the Depression, Prohibition, historical figures (Washington, Jefferson, and Jackson), and popular culture (Lindbergh and baseball). Also included are speeches by other notable figures.
Arrangement is chronological within each document type.
