Photographs, 19th and 20th centuries
This series consists of black and white Warfield family photographs. In addition, photographs document the gubernatorial activities of Edwin Warfield, Sr. Photographs of military camps during WWI most likely are connected to Edwin Warfield, Jr. Examples of photographs include portraits of Governor Warfield; Governor Warfield at the St. Louis World's Fair, 1904; log cabin schoolhouse where Edwin Warfield attended 1868-1869; Confederate Reunion, Oakdale, 1899; Warfield reviewing Maryland National Guard, 1904; graduation at University of Maryland, 1940s; Governor Warfield with Colonel R. F. Manly, 1916; Groundbreaking for the Cape Cod Canal, 1909; Boumi Temple members at a University of Maryland football game; Charlie Keller, New York baseball player; Maryland National Guard, Battery A, ca. 1916; opening of the Cape Cod Canal, 1914; Home Week celebration, 1907; Governor Warfield with Woodrow Wilson, 1918; George Kenly, Jr. with Jack; John R. Kenly, 1865; Davies L. Kenly; Rossborough Inn (people in colonial costumes); William Watkins Kenly; Seymour Hicks; Ellaline Terriss; Mrs. E. A. Warfield and grandchildren; President Silvester with group of women; Pocahontas; and George Tyson Kenly.
Also included are five scrapbooks documenting various events relating to Warfield family history.
Photographs that had been previously removed to the Biographical Print Files were reintegrated into the collection. This includes a scrapbook of photographs taken of a lynching.
- 1--(73) annotated photographs depicting travel scenes from Yellowstone, Mt. Vernon, Druid Hill Park, Hull's Cove; pets; individuals; and various houses. Front page inscribed "Katharine Lawrence Lee."
- 2--(48) photographs depicting horse racing, children, children with pets, parade--inauguration?
- 3--(15) photographs depicting an unidentified historic event--Governor Warfield and Virginia governor are present, breaking ground and laying the cornerstone
- 4--(151) photographs depicting big game hunting, travels (Yellowstone), candid unidentified individuals and groups, many are of young men and women, sailing
- 5--(127) photographs depicting life in a military camp. One photograph is labeled "Sergeant Edwin Warfield command of 2nd Sec. Battery A. at Tobyhanna, 1916
