Rose Jelly Manufacturing Company, 1881-1915 and undated
Rose Jelly Manufacturing Company operated out of New Midway, Maryland. The company manufactured and sold various medicinal remedies, Rose Jelly being the best known. According to company letterhead, Rose Jelly was "a grand preparation for the hair and skin; also, unsurpassed for frosted feet, chapped hands, etc." At one time, the company also had an office in Chicago, and, in 1885, Renner contracted with D. M. Noland to sell Rose Jelly in Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, and all of the states west of the Mississippi.This series contains correspondence, financial records, a ledger, legal documents, and a bankbook, as well as the directions and combination to opening the company's safe. These items document primarily the business transactions and contractual agreements made in the name of the Rose Jelly Manufacturing Company. Also, in correspondence related to Rose Jelly, there is a brief mention of a patent for a ball bearing spindle submitted by Francis Renner but rejected by the U. S. Patent Office. Correspondents include: W. E. Simonds, U. S. Patent Office; D. M. Noland; John Stover; A. H. Evans & Company; and Augustus J. Phillip. Arrangement is chronological with undated material at the end.
