Correspondence, 1840, 1857

 Series 1

Thomas H. Osbourn attended the Alexandria Boarding School in Alexandria, Virginia from 1839 to 1840. An 1840 letter of recommendation for Osbourn from Benjamin Hallowell, the school's director, describes the course of study Osbourn followed, his strengths and his character. Hallowell concluded that Osbourn was a youth of "excellent natural ability and of undeviating moral correctness." Benjamin Hallowell (1799-1877) later served as president of the Maryland Agricultural College in 1859.

The other correspondence in this series concerns a shipment of tobacco to Baltimore on the steamer Patuxent in 1857.

Arrangement is chronological.
