Professional Activities, 1960-2003
This series documents Gayle's professional activities as an advocate for historic preservation. The materials in this series show Gayle's associations with a variety of individuals and organizations, public and private, including the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission, various New York City mayoral administrations, the Victorian Society in America, the Municipal Art Society, the Fine Arts Federation, and the Society of Industrial Archeology. The bulk of the material pertains to the activities of the Friends of Cast Iron Architecture (FCIA), which Gayle founded and led as president for several decades. Materials in this series include flyers and brochures, newsletters, minutes, professional and personal correspondence, walking tour transcripts, photographs, a cassette tape, slides, and a stereocard.
