Ephraim L. German, 1864
This series consists of three letters written by Private Ephraim German of the 54th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers. Private German was recruited in Bedford, Pennsylvania, and mustered into service October 3, 1863, and served for three years. He was discharged from service June 6, 1865, after being wounded in action. Private German recovered from his wounds at Hammond Hospital at Point Lookout. He wrote two letters to his father and one to his wife during this time, where he discussed his personal experiences as a patient in the hospital, money troubles, and his plans for returning home. Materials are arranged in chronological order.
