John Herbert Williams, 1865-circa 1922
There are three documents relating to John Herbert Williams in this series- Certificate of Release of Prisoner of War, one Oath of Loyalty, and one early 20th century envelope from the Stonewall Camp of Confederate Veterans. Williams was a carpenter who enlisted as a private in āGā company of the Virginia 9th Infantry at Pig Point, Nansemond County, Virginia. He was captured at the Battle of Five Forks in Virginia on April 2nd, 1865, and held at Point Lookout until June 5th when he signed his loyalty oath. Williams later was involved in Confederate Veterans groups until his death in 1912. Materials are arranged in chronological order.
