Combination letter copybook and diary kept by Dr. James Garry, an Irishman who immigrated to the United States in 1828. Letters preserved in copybook detail hi immigration, his first years in Baltimore (where he studied medicine), his work as Corresponding Secretary of the "Associated Friends of Ireland in the City of Baltimore," his continuing self-education in the Classics, interest in American politics, and solicitude for siblings who remained in Ireland.
