Correspondence, 1944, 1960-1974, 1976-1977, and undated
This series contains letters to and from Hoffenberg, of both a professional and personal nature. The most extensive correspondence is with Peter Mayer, an editor-in-chief at Avon Publishing; Robert Amussen, an editor at Dutton; Scott Bartlett, an editor-in-chief at Dutton; and Marie Wilkerson of the Park Avenue Literary Agency; a complete list of the staff of Avon and Dutton, with whom Hoffenberg corresponded appears in Appendix B. There is also correspondence with Clyde Robert Bulla regarding Hoffenberg's The Snobodies; George Englund of MGM; Heber Ladner, the Secretary of State for Mississippi; and Paul Monash of Twentieth Century-Fox. The subjects of his professional correspondence include the writing, editing, and publication of his works. The personal correspondents include Leon Uris, Gwen Bristow, and Adolph A. Kroch. This correspondence consists primarily of invitations to informal functions and friendly inquiries. Also included in this series are numerous lecture requests and other miscellaneous correspondence. This series is arranged alphabetically by correspondent.
