Panganiban-Chapman Family, circa 1920s-2000 and undated

Juliana Ordonio Panganiban (1912-2000) arrived in the United States in 1941 and served as a nanny for Lt. Charlie Morton's family until 1950. She lived near St. Mary's Church on Fourth Street in Washington, D.C. Juliana married Rudy Panganiban in 1944 and bought a house next to Riverdale Mansion in Riverdale, Maryland (1).

This subseries includes many photographs from the Panganiban family on the streets of Washington, D.C., at family parties and at community dances and events. This subseries was donated by Maria Panganiban Chapman on February 19, 2015 with additional items added by members of the Panganiban family from 2017 to 2018. It also includes memorial essay about Juliana O. Panganiban, "A Journey through Life" (2000) and a copy of Rufo. C. Panganiban's naturalization application.

This subseries is arranged with the physical photographs in their original order and the oversized photographs listed afterward, arranged alphabetically by title. The newest accruals (accessions 2018-0111-MDHC, 2019-076-MDHC, and 2023-0021-MDHC) were added at the end.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

The materials were donated to the Unviersity of Maryland Libraries by Rita M. Cacas on February 27, 2015.

Accession 2018-0111-MDHC materials were donated to the Unviersity of Maryland Libraries by the Panganiban-Chapman family on September 1, 2017.

Accession 2019-076-MDHC materials were donated to the Unviersity of Maryland Libraries by Rita M. Cacas on February 12, 2019.

Accession 2023-0021-MDHC materials were donated to the Unviersity of Maryland Libraries by Rita M. Cacas on November 15, 2022.
