Montano Family, 1968-1969

Jose Montano, Sr. was born on June 19, 1933 in Infanta, Pangasinan, Philippines. He enlisted in the US navy in 1955 and served for 22 years on both the East Coast and in the Pacific Fleet at Honolulu, Hawaii. After three years in Hawaii he was assigned to the White House Special Support Group in the late 1960s. He later served in Norfolk, Virginia and aboard other navy vessels. After he retired from the Navy in 1977 he worked for 16 years at the US Naval Supply Center and Naval Aviation Depot. He is involved in many civic groups, including the Filipino groups Filipino-American Veterans of Hampton Roads, Pangasinan Association of Virginia and the United Ilocano Association of Tidewater. He was also a founding member of the National Federation of Filipino American Associations.

In 1965 Jose married Loreto (Lori) Magalindan, who grew up in his hometown. They had three children: Amy, Jose (Joe) Jr (1968-2016) and Ben. (1)
