Albert F. Woods, 1899 and 1916-1926 and undated

 Series 6

This series contains correspondence, legislative bills, government guidelines, reports, publications, clippings, and legal records related to the growth of the Maryland Agricultural College and the formation and administration of the University of Maryland. In addition to material related to the university and departmental budgets, there are many reports and letters dealing with the administration of campus departments, in particular, the agricultural, architectural, and military components. Woods corresponded regularly with government officials, college deans, campus administrators, and his peers including Governors E. C. Harrington and Albert C. Ritchie, Dean Heatwole, members of the Board of Regents, Harry C. Byrd, Maude F. McKenney, and future Maryland president Raymond A. Pearson of Iowa State College. Also included in this series are descriptions of student activities, particularly disciplinary matters. A well-publicized controversy between President Woods and two coeds refused registration is detailed in folders entitled Chi Omega Lawsuit, Publicity, and Simpson, [Vivian and Virginia Flanagan]. Folders are arranged alphabetically by subject.
