Chronological Reference Files, 1700-1979

In Sub-Series 1, material is organized according to the date of its subject matter. So, for example, a recent historical article about the Civil War would appear in the "1860-1869" folder. Mr. Schnapper sometimes filed material by its date of publication, rather than according to the date of its subject matter. Items which do not refer to a clear time period, or span several years, are likely to be filed by publication date.
