Chronological Files, 1951-1971

The subseries from 1951-1970 contains rather extensive AFL economic research, correspondence, and reports from 1951-1953, but is sparse from 1954 and 1955, due to serious medical problems suffered by Shishkin at that time. Correspondence and documents relating to the Housing and Civil Rights Departments from the mid-1950s to the mid-1960s are very limited in number.

A 249-page manuscript by Shishkin entitled "Organized Labor and the Negro" ca. 1965, closes out the civil rights material in the collection. The study is based upon secondary sources and AFL-CIO printed records. Shishkin does not seem to have drawn from manuscript sources except from his own files and this material is limited in scope.
