Eastern Europe and the USSR, 1971-1976
This series contains interviews, invitations, lists, reports, speeches, correspondence, newspaper clippings, press releases, and periodicals. The records date from 1971-1976, but most fall within the period 1974-1976. Topics include the AFL-CIO and anti-communism; political repression in Eastern Europe; human rights abuses in the Soviet Union; political dissidents in the Soviet Union; AFL-CIO opposition to the export of grain to the Soviet Union; and Soviet dissident Alexander Solzhenitsyn.
Major correspondents include: Ernest Lee; Jay Lovestone; George Meany (President, AFL-CIO); and Leo Perlis (Director, AFL-CIO Community Services Department).
