Conferences and Meetings, 1964-1981, bulk: 1967-1978

 Series 5

This series contains materials concerning meetings of the Civil Rights Department with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) (Washington and regional offices are interfiled), the Justice Department, the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP), international unions, and other agencies. Also included are materials from equal employment opportunity conferences attended by the department staff, mainly Slaiman and Pollard, and sponsored by the department, the EEOC or other organizations. Most of these items are notes (occasionally stenographic), correspondence, and handouts. Meetings concern mainly procedural matters, such as problems in obtaining copies of complaints from the EEOC. Contained here are 1974 meetings, including one with the EEOC and members of the AFL-CIO Subcommittee on Compliance, concerning the AFL-CIO EEOC agreement. Individual cases are seldom mentioned but there is some information on the EEOC Myers v. Gilman Paper case involving Electrical Workers in Local 741; the Justice Department case involving the Laborers local in Albany, GA; and the OFCCP case involving the Glass Bottle Blowers and Owens-Illinois. "International Union Conferences" are those sponsored by international unions and differ from "International Union Meetings," which concern procedures or cases.
