Subject Files, 1956-1979, bulk: 1966-1979
The Civil Rights Department maintained these files for reference purposes. After removing most publications and government documents, what remains are handwritten notes, correspondence, near-print and some pamphlets, such as those from Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and the Michigan Civil Rights Commission on filing complaints. Several files contain notes that Slaiman or Pollard took during various congressional and EEOC hearings. There is also a group of files kept on candidates for EEOC positions during the late 1970s. Other materials include a 1977 analysis of the EEOC, probably by Pollard; an undated statement made by EEOC employees to EEOC management concerning the backlog of cases; the 1956 Civil Rights Department procedures for processing complaints; and mid-1970s agreements between the AFL-CIO and the EEOC about notification of cases.
