State and Local Central Bodies, 1951-1978

This series consists of correspondence of the AFL Legislative Committee and the AFL-CIO Department of Legislation with state and local central bodies. The bulk of the material dates to the post-1955 period. The series also contains memoranda, telegrams, resolutions, and some newspaper clippings, most of which concern local and state level political campaigns and legislation. Much of the material relates to coordination of legislative campaigns conducted jointly by state and city bodies and the legislative office of the federation. A significant amount of material exists documenting labor's efforts to defeat right-to-work legislation at the state level in the 1950s and 1960s.
