This series contains correspondence and memos, both incoming and outgoing, of Stanley Ruttenberg as Director of the Research Department from 1961 to 1962. Much of the correspondence deals with information requests, speaking engagements or articles Ruttenberg had submitted for publication. Correspondents include: James Carey, Ewan Claque, Henry Luce, Nat Weinberg, Jay Lovestone, Al Gore and Estes Kefauver.

This series is arranged alphabetically by correspondent. Four files, congressional correspondence and George Meany memos, contain only material prior to 1961 and have been placed at the beginning of the series. Letters to editors of magazines and newspapers were filed together under "editor" rather than dispersed and filed under the name of the publication.
