State and Local Central Bodies Correspondence, 1956-1980

 Series 2

This series contains constitutions, charters, and correspondence with state and local bodies, 1956-1980, with the bulk of the documents covering the years 1961-1967. The processing team notices that correspondence with some local central bodies is conspicuously sparse. Materials within the collection are particularly rich in the following areas: those broadly relating to the civil rights struggle of the 1960s in Alabama and Mississippi, the Employ the Handicap program, federal workers in the Tennessee Valley, the remerger of the Kansas State AFL-CIO in 1965, and hearings, investigations, and trusteeships involving the contral bodies for San Francisco, CA; Colorado; New Mexico; Cleveland, OH; Oklahoma; Allegheny County, PA; and Philadelphia, PA. To some degree, this series documents the work of Stanton Smith, assistant to President Meany.
