Miscellaneous Correspondence and Subject Files, 1959-1979

 Series 3

This series spans the dates 1959-1979 and consists of correspondence and accompanying printed material relating to the professional concerns and interests of George Meany as a labor leader. It does not, however, contain material which directly concerns the administration of the AFL-CIO or its affiliated labor organizations. The series includes correspondence from prominent political and religious leaders as well as correspondence from rank-and-file union members and their families. Topics include issues of national importance such as civil rights, automation, affordable housing, and health care, as well as grievances against affiliated unions and congratulatory letters. This series is particularly strong in showing Meany's relationships with prominent leaders and in offering insights into the concerns of many individuals about issues affecting their work and private lives. The series spans the dates 1959-1979.
