Financial and Legal, 1906-1977 and undated

This series includes Porter's official legal and financial materials, such as bank books and statements; check registers; checking records (check stubs and one canceled check); deposit slips; loans; bills; contracts; materials from real estate purchases and leases; medical, car, and travel insurance certificates; legal records of the Katherine Anne Porter Foundation; marriage certificates from 1906, 1933, and 1938; divorce papers from 1937 and 1942; Medicare statements; passports, visas, and identity cards; records of royalties and fees received; social security applications and statements; income tax forms; and three versions of her will and its codicils.

Notable materials include a 1961 writ of attachment that documents a disagreement with her household help; numerous unfulfilled book contracts; and the 1977 document that gave Paul Porter, Jr., legal guardianship of Porter.

The series is separated into fourteen subcategories: Banks; Bills; Contracts; Housing; Insurance; Katherine Anne Porter Foundation; Marriage and Divorce Documents; Medical; Other Legal; Passports, Visas, and Identity Cards; Royalties and Fees; Social Security; Taxes; and Wills and Codicils. Materials are arranged alphabetically by folder title, then chronologically, with the exception of the bills and the tax forms, which are wholly chronological.
