Clippings, 1919-1980 and undated

 Series 6

This series consists of clippings collected by Porter on a wide variety of subjects. The materials are a useful compendium of articles about Porter and her works, including hard-to-find articles from her journalism career in Denver, from the 1930s, and from French and Mexican newspapers. Materials that Porter collected show her wide-ranging interests, including literary figures, national and world affairs, civil rights, health, fashion, food and recipes, and cartoons. Approximately one quarter of the clippings are annotated with her comments, or with comments of persons who sent them to her. When several items were included with a clipping, Porter often marked the article that interested her most with an emphatic "This!"

In January 1996, Professor Ray Lewis White donated additional clippings, mostly reviews of Porter's work or articles about her. Those that were not duplicates of Porter's collection are retained here as a separate subsection.

Materials are arranged in six subgroups: By Porter; About Porter; Reviews of Porter's Works; Collected by Porter; the White Addendum; and Oversize. Clippings by and about Porter are arranged chronologically; those in Reviews, Collected by Porter, the White Addendum, and Oversize are arranged by subject, then chronologically.
