Family--To Others, 1880-1979 and undated
This subseries contains correspondence exchanged between Porter's family and friends. Most of it was originally mixed in with Porter's correspondence; some clearly came as attachments to letters she received, but others appear to have been collected by her in other ways. They are gathered here for easier access. Letters addressed jointly (i.e., to Porter and Albert Erskine from family members) remain with the Family--To Porter subseries.
The letters were addressed to ten family members and to her friend Monroe Wheeler. The family members include Albert Erskine, one of her husbands; Anna Gay Holloway Heintze, Porter's niece; Mary Alice Hillendahl, Porter's younger sister; Gay Porter Holloway, Porter's older sister; John Jacob Myers, brother-in-law of Porter's maternal grandmother; Harrison Boone Porter, Porter's father; Ione Funchess Porter, the wife of Porter's uncle Newell; Paul Porter, Sr., her brother; Paul Porter, Jr., her nephew and the son of her brother; and Eugene Pressly, one of her husbands. Some of the significant correspondents of these eleven individuals include members of Porter's husbands' families, other Porter family members, and Porter's literary and artistic friends. Materials are arranged alphabetically by last name of the eleven primary correspondents, under each of these, his or her correspondents are arranged alphabetically, then chronologically within the folder.
Related materials may be found in other subseries of Series I and in Series XII: Photographs.
