Public Affairs Files, 1969-1984

 Series 8

This series contains materials documenting the public relations and public affairs activities conducted by CTW. CTW hired public relations firm Carl Byoir & Associates (CB&A) to run its public affairs department beginning in January 1969. CB&A assigned full-time representatives to CTW, including Robert Hatch, who served as vice president at both CTW and CB&A. CB&A hired Stuart Awbrey, formerly Director of Public Information for the Peace Corps and Senior Public Affairs Representative for IBM, as CTW Director of Public Information beginning in November 1971. Awbrey was promoted to vice president at CB&A after five years with the firm. Awbrey's successor as CTW Director of Public Information, Frances Kaufman, began her association with CTW working on several special projects.

The Public Affairs files include the administrative files of Robert Hatch and Stuart Awbrey, as well as general public affairs files and files relating to specific shows, including several which were never completed. This series includes extensive information relating to the promotion of several programs and related projects, including concerts, museum exhibits and toys.

Materials are arranged into the following three subseries: Memos, Correspondence, and Administrative Files; General Files; and Program Files.
