Litigation, 1913-1980
This series consists of legal records that document the litigation in which the bakers union was a party. While most of the records concern lawsuits between the union and various bakery companies, many bear witness to the 1957 schism in the union as the two rival factions fought over control of the assets of the union’s local affiliates. A small number of files contain information related to the federal prosecution of several union officials on the corruption charges that led to the schism. There are also a small number of records documenting litigation between the union and the National Labor Relations Board.

Series 1-8 of this collection are open to the public and must be used in the Special Collections reading room. Researchers must register and agree to copyright and privacy laws before using this collection.
Series 9-48 are minimally processed. This means that materials are in the same state we received them and have not been reviewed for content or condition. The collection may need to be screened prior to use. Please contact us before visiting the Special Collections reading room to view this collection. Preliminary inventories are is available under the Inventories/Additional Information section.

The series is organized in two ways: most records are arranged alphabetically by company or case name, while some records involving local affiliates are arranged separately by affiliate number.
