Subject Files, 1953-1963
This series consists of files containing correspondence, meeting minutes, advertisements, and registration materials. Subjects covered include departmental activities, hog production, animal nutrition, agricultural conferences, breeder associations, and livestock competitions. Files related to Young’s duties as a faculty member at the University of Maryland include departmental mailings and job placement for departmental alumni. Hog production materials consist of advertisements and promotional information. Blueprints and architectural drawings depict hog buildings and equipment. Correspondence from 1963 concerns the sale and purchase of hogs by breed; hogs’ health and nutrition; departmental duties; orders and advertisements for feed, equipment, books, and magazines; and livestock show judging. A series of loin eye tracings from swine carcass contests are included in the series. Judges measured the tracings, and the measurements became part of a formula for calculating the pork’s leanness and market value.
Arrangement is alphabetical; files with identical headings are arranged in chronological order.
