H.R. 8537 Broadside, August 1, 1892
On August 1, 1892, President Harrison signed the House Resolution (HR) 8537 into law. This House Resolution was the first of its kind and created the eight hour work day, for all public workers. The law also states that if an employer does not abide but the eight hour work day, they can be punished with up to two years jail time.
