Administrative History, 1924-1986 and undated
This series contains materials from both the Baltimore News-Post and the News American, as well as some items from earlier newspapers such as the Baltimore News. The series contains material such as editorial style guides, calendars, subscriber materials, employee contests, and the employee newsletters: Hell Box, Newsposter, No Name, and Types and Faces. In addition, this series has the agreement and scale of wages, retirement policy documents, a membership list, and other materials from the News Union of Baltimore. The internal library of the News-Post and News American gathered an extensive range of administrative and internally created research material in the form of notes documenting the social and business history of the institution, with an emphasis on the origins of the newspaper. Much of this material was retained in order to form the library files (general) and the library files (research materials) in this series. Notable are the Baltimore theatre pamphlets (1910-1965), Maryland agricultural and event calendars (1956-1975) and Maryland Traffic Accident reports (1960-1972). Other items of interest are some of the library's accession records (1954-1960) and an obituary logbook in which the newspaper recorded the deaths of individuals in the local community. Arrangement is alphabetical by title of paper, and then alphabetical by subject. Folders labeled General are listed first and then the rest of the folders on the same level follow alphabetically. Material that could not be associated with a specific newspaper or spanned across several newspaper titles is listed at the end of the series in alphabetical order.
